This beautifully simple bird call is crafted from wood and metal and designed to reproduce the nightingale’s distinctive tone through friction rather than breath. It is not played by blowing.

To play: hold the metal portion in your left hand. With your thumb and forefinger, gently turn the wooden piece so it rubs against the metal. Push softly and steadily. It is the friction between wood and metal that creates the nightingale’s song.

A contemplative and poetic instrument, this call invites careful movement and attentive listening, especially suited to twilight walks and springtime study.
